An Interesting Thought...
Have you ever heard the phrase, "don't know what you've got til it's gone"? Yeah I know for those of you over 30 might be saying that is was a 80's hairband song by Cinderella. That's not what I am thinking of, though I will admit that that stupid song is stuck in my head now. No what I mean is why is it that we miss the here and now so often. What has me thinking of this is this whole Michael Jackson situation. Now no disrespect to him or his music but the truth is that 3 weeks ago, I didn't really think he had that many fans (I could just be oblivious) . I hadn't heard a Michael Jackson song for years and hadn't given the guy much thought at all. Then of course the events of June 25th occur and his name becomes one of the most searched names on google, half of my friends have something about him in their tweets and Facebook statuses, and it seems that everyone was his biggest fan. Now the truth is that it doesn't matter to me who is or isn't a fan of Michael, but what it made me think is why is it that when we have something, we often miss it. We don't appreciate the here and now, we don't appreciate the day that we are given. Honestly, I don't think that many people were really HUGE fans of him, but it became the en vogue thing to do once the unfortunate death occurred. But the lesson that we learn is that we need to really appreciate what we have and who God has made us to be and the opportunities He has given us right now and not wait until it is gone. Because if we wait til it's gone, then we might have to pretend that we cared when it was here... I don't want to be the guy who wakes up one day and says, "man, I really had an opportunity to ________ (fill in the blank), and I missed it." It's the whole idea of Carpe Diem, or "Seizing the Day"
So here's the question... "What do you have in front of you that you are missing? What do you need to appreciate? What is it that if you don't watch out, you might wake up and have to pretend that you cared about it because it is gone and you missed it?"
Just my thoughts!

My constant check with this is with April. I'm to love her like Christ loves the Church. That being said, I miss that mark quite pathetically...a lot!
And, as I get older I realize the value of my parents.
